Rubric stores four cookies, all of them your own display settings, and nothing else. There are no analytics, no advertising, no third-party scripts, and no tracking of any kind. That is why you were not asked to accept anything when you arrived.

The cookies

• rubric-theme — light or dark, when you have chosen one rather than following your device.
• rubric-palette — which ground you read on.
• rubric-text-size — your text size, when it is not the default.
• rubric-motion — set only if you have asked for reduced motion here.

Each is set only when you change that setting on the reading preferences page, is readable only by this site, expires after a year, and is never sent anywhere else. Clearing them resets you to following your device.

What the server sees

Ordinary web-server records: the address your request came from, the page you asked for, and the time. These are used to keep the site available — in particular to stop one visitor exhausting the request budget everyone shares — and are not combined with anything else or used to build a profile.

What is not here

• No analytics, first- or third-party.
• No advertising, and nothing that profiles you.
• No embedded fonts, scripts, or images loaded from anyone else’s servers.
• No social sharing buttons — the share control uses your own device’s share sheet or clipboard.
• No account, so nothing to link a reading history to.

Reading is not logged to you

Nothing records which articles you read. There is no account in this version of the site, and no identifier is stored that would let one visit be connected to another.
